Respite care is short-term, temporary relief to those who are caring for an individual with an intellectual or developmental disability (IDD). All caregivers, especially unpaid parents, relatives and friends, need respite from the mental, physical & emotional responsibilities of caring for a person with IDD.
The Arc of El Paso does not currently provide respite services but please refer to the following resources for help:
1. Star+Plus Waiver: If your loved one has this type of insurance (formerly Medicaid) you are eligible to receive 720 hours of respite. Contact your Managed Care Organization – Amerigroup or Molina – for more information.
2. Star+Plus: This replaced Medicaid and offers Primary Health Care (PHC) to those who qualify. PHC can assist with providing bathing, dressing, laundry, toileting, grooming, feeding and other “activities of daily living”. A paid caregiver will come into your home to provide your loved one with these services during which time you can receive respite.
Contact your Managed Care Organization – Amerigroup or Molina – for more information.
3. Emergence Health Network: Emergence offers limited respite care. You can check with them at (915) 772-4446.
